Ubuntu 11.04 si chiamerà Natty Narwhal

Mark Shuttleworth ha annunciato che Ubuntu 11.04 si chiamerà Natty Narwhal.

Come saprete i nomi in codice nell’informatica sono molto importanti, e lo sono in particolar modo nelle distribuzioni Linux.

Mark Shuttleworth, tramite il suo blog ufficiale, ha annunciato quello che sarà il nome della versione Ubuntu 11.04, che come suggerisce la numerazione uscirà nel mese di aprile del 2011.

Ubuntu 11.04 si chiamerà Natty Narwhal. Il Narvalo è un animale appartenente alla famiglia dei cetacei, che vive nei mari dell’Artico.

Shuttleworth, il padre fondatore della distribuzione Ubuntu, ha voluto scegliere questo semi-sconosciuto animale come mascotte della versione 11.04 per salvaguardarne la specie.

Infatti nel mare Artico il narvalo viene catturato, con il serio rischio di una prossima estinzione della specie.

Il monito di Shuttleworth è quello di ricordare a tutti che la terra è un bene prezioso, che non va distrutto.

A parte questa discussione filosofica, che potete leggere per intero sul blog di Shuttleworth, è difficile ad oggi dire cosa potrà proporre Ubuntu 11.04, dal momento che mancano ancora due mesi all’uscita di Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat.

Torna in gioco quindi il narvalo, che è legato anche alla mitologia, a causa del suo unicorno, che lo lega inevitabilmente a storie magiche. Shuttleworth spera che il nome sia di buon auspicio, per creare una versione di Ubuntu ancora più bella di quelle attuali.
